About Us: Artist

A little bit of Maeganite

Maegan Penley has an art style that explodes onto the page like a bit of dynamite, hence her artist moniker. Her forte is bringing characters to life, capturing expressions and emotions with a few quick strokes as only the most expert of artists can do. This level of artistic excellence was born of a childhood filled with self-directed art creations and later honed at Valdosta State University where Ms. Penley graduated with a BFA in Illustration.

Upon being asked to become a part of the Books That Give program, Ms. Penley readily embraced the opportunity to use her years of drawing and painting expertise to help create a project that would benefit worthy causes. She especially welcomed supporting nonprofits that serve veterans as her husband, Sergeant Donald Penley, is a combat veteran from the US Army, who continues to serve in the National Guard.

Ms. Penley used her extraordinary talents to create the three books in the Super Bouv Series for the Books That Give program. As a dog lover herself, she was able to portray the humanlike expressiveness of canines in the characters by capturing some of the looks she has seen over the years in her own two dogs, Bosco and Max—who appear in the first book in the series, Ruby and Her New Family. In addition to incorporating her beloved pooches into her work, Ms. Penley also has a penchant for drawing herself into her artistic projects. See if you can find the Maegan-inspired character in the Super Bouv Series!
